Review of “Shadows at Dusk” by Elizabeth Goddard

I am a big fan of books by Elizabeth Goddard. This is the second in her Missing in Alaska series. You do not have to have read the first to read and enjoy this one. The two main characters are Carrie James and Detective Trevor West. Carrie is an Alaskan bush pilot who has a dramatic past. Trevor has come to Alaska in order to find his missing sister and seeks Carrie out to help him. This novel starts out with a prologue that gives a little taste of Carrie’s tragic past. Then the first chapter starts ten years after that so I found it intriguing as to what her past would mean to her present. There is an intriguing puzzle that plays out in the novel and you will find yourself trying to put the pieces together throughout the whole book. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it.

Review of “Lost and Found” by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Lost and Found by Suzanne Woods Fisher is centered mostly around the Amish. David, a bishop in the Amish church, is faced with many decisions such as whether or not to relocate his congregation due to issues in the community; this leads to other problems. Micah has several of his own issues to work through. Like Micah, Trudy is very interested in bird watching. (There are many fascinating facts from Trudy’s bird log included throughout the book.) She is also interested in Micah, but he gets caught up in the past and dealing with his own issues. Even though the story focuses on the Amish, some of the issues they face are similar to issues we are called on to deal with in society today. It is a very interesting read.

Review of “On Moonberry Lake” by Holly Varni

On Moonberry Lake is the first book I’ve read by Holly Varni. The main character, Cora, returns to the hometown of her grandparents for her mother’s funeral. She learns that she has inherited the lodge once owned by her grandparents if she lives up to certain stipulations left in her mom’s will. She remembers many things from her childhood, but she is inundated by things she does not understand. From the very beginning, she encounters some very eccentric characters. These characters are well written, and ones the reader will delight in coming to know. At times, you will want to laugh out loud, and at other times you will want to cry. This book grabs the reader early on and is filled with surprises. I will definitely add Holly Varni to my want to read list.

Review of “Seeking Justice” by Sharee Stover

This is the first book I have read by Sharee Stover. I was drawn to this book because the book blurb sounded really good and I was even more excited to realize it is set at Christmas. This author does an amazing job of drawing you into the lives of these characters and keeping your attention. I also enjoyed the puzzle of trying to figure out what was really going on. I will definitely be putting this author on my must read list.

Review of “Julia Monroe Begins Again” by Rebekah Millet

This is Rebekah Millet’s debut novel.  The personality of the main female character, Julia Monroe, jumped off the page from the very beginning.  She has this humor about her that is so relatable.  And her alternative to cursing is hilarious.  I got a very authentic feeling when reading this novel.  I really enjoyed all of the secondary characters as much as I did the main characters.  This book was just such a great read.  Even though this book is over 300 pages I did not feel as though any of the story could have been left out.  I am really looking forward to any future novels by this author.
