Review of “Second Time Around” by Melody Carlson

I have been a fan of books by Melody Carlson for awhile now. I feel as though most of the ones I have read by her had younger main female characters in them, but this novel has an older divorced woman as the main character. In my opinion, this makes the book have a different feel. Mallory Farrell inherits a tourist shop with an apartment above from her grandmother. She decides to revamp it into a home decor boutique and to renovate the apartment to live in. Her aunt and cousins are not happy that she inherited it instead of one of them. They are well written antagonists. She runs into an old friend from her visits with her grandmother and is recommended a contractor named Thomas for her renovation. To me, he is also a well written antagonist because he seems to have an attitude with her on several occasions. I really got into this plot because I could feel the emotions that Mallory was feeling. It is written to the point where I feel like I am right there going through everything. Melody Carlson knocks another book out of the park. I highly recommend it.

Review of “Mistaken Mountain Abduction” by Shannon Redmon

I am a big fan of books by Shannon Redmon. There are three things that really drew me to read this book. One is that it is about twins and mistaking one twin for the other. The second thing is that the book is set in North Carolina. And the final thing that drew me to wanting to read this novel is that the suspense and mystery of the plot start from the very beginning. There are several plot twists in this book. You are also reminded that not everyone is as they seem. I definitely recommend this book.

Review of “Alaskan Avalanche Escape” by Darlene L. Turner

I am a big fan of books by Darlene L. Turner. She does an amazing job of grabbing your attention from the beginning of the book and getting it until the end. This book is not an exception to that ability. The two main characters have a past experience with each other that makes their relationship tense, but makes the plot that much more interesting. There are so many possible suspects in this book that it is quite a puzzle to try to solve before you are told the name of the bad guy. I definitely enjoyed trying to figure it all out on my own first. I highly recommend this book.

Review of “Cold Light of Day” by Elizabeth Goddard

This book starts out with a very suspenseful and mysterious prologue then I feel as though the first several chapters are more mysterious than suspenseful. I definitely found myself wondering just exactly who Grier Brenner was and why he was in Shadow Gap. Once the suspense really started for me, I feel like the pace of the book picked up even though it was not a slow read from the beginning. There are several twists and turns in this book so I never figured out the mystery before it was revealed to me. This book was so good from the beginning to the end.

Review of “Everything is Just Beginning” by Erin Bartels

Everything Is Just Beginning by Erin Bartels is told from the point of view of the main character Michael Sullivan. Although Michael really likes music, he is very self-critical and has a low self esteem, traits with which many people can identify. Even before he begins his story, the reader may sympathize with all the hardships he has already faced. When he has nowhere else to turn, he moves in with the twin brother of his dad. Quite ironically, he was named after his uncle. That may be all they have in common. After accepting an invitation intended for his uncle, Michael meets the Wheeler family. Natalie Wheeler, another one of the main characters,  is a character most everyone will like from the very beginning. She too has obstacles to overcome. Unlike Michael, she does not lack self confidence. Her family has a lot to contribute to the story line as well. There are many underlying lessons to be gained and many opportunities for second chances throughout this book. If you have ever had someone in your life that really made a difference in making you the person you have become, this book will truly speak to you. It is a most enjoyable read.
