Review of “The Governess’s Earl” by Regina Scott

This is the fourth book in the Grace-by-the-Sea series. This is definitely a series that is better if you read them in order because they build on each other though you can read them separately if you would like. Regina Scott does an excellent job of drawing you into the story from the very beginning and if you have read the previous books in the series then you are already looking forward to finding out about some things that are left unfinished from those novels. For example, you are wondering who the French spies are which are plaguing the town and how they will locate them. She also draws you in with the personalities of all her characters but especially the women because they are so head strong and independent that you just can’t help but like them. I have to say that if you do choose to read this book as a stand-alone then you will be missing out so much on the story because you will spend some time trying to understand what is going on.

Review of “Cast the First Stone” by David James Warren

This is the first book in the “True Lies of Rembrandt Stone” series. It is written by three authors, Susan May Warren, James L. Rubart, and David C. Warren, under the pseudonym of David James Warren. I have read all of James L. Rubart’s books and a good portion of Susan May Warren’s books. This is a debut for David C. Warren who is the son of Susan May Warren. This book has it all between cold cases, romance, and time travel. I believe it will appeal to a wide variety of readers. This book is so good that it drew me in not from the first page but from the very first paragraph of the book. This is definitely a series that you are going to want to read from the beginning. I like that they made Rembrandt Stone, who is the main character, an author that writes books based on what he knows about being a police detective. However, this is just an interesting side story. By the end of this book, you are definitely left wanting more which is why it is so good that they have all six books scheduled to come out in 2021.

Review of “A Hopeful Christmas” by Various Authors

This book is a collection of Regency romance novellas by four different authors. They are: Lord Blakley’s Gift by Anneka R. Walker, A Season of Hope by Sian Ann Bessey, Christmas by the Sea by Cara Kelly, and Expectations at Canterwood by Krista Lynn Jensen. Though not related by characters or setting, all four novellas do have a common theme of hope and Christmas time. You will find yourself emotionally entangled with the characters in each novella and wanting to fight for them against their foes. Do not be surprised if you get to the end of each one and wish that there was more to the story because you just feel like you need more time with each of them. And there antics will have you laughing to yourself. I would definitely love to read more novels by each of these authors.

Review of “Once Upon a Dickens Christmas” by Michelle Griep

This is my first book that I have read my Michelle Griep. I found it for a good deal at Ollie’s and it not only had an attractive cover, but if also has the pages I like that have uneven edges. Both of those things plus that it is a Christmas book drew me to wanting to read it. This novel is a collection of three novellas, 12 Days at Bleakly Manor, A Tale of Two Hearts, and The Old Lace Shop, all by Michelle Griep. All three novellas are slightly related and all of them are excellent reads. You will not be disappointed if you pick this book to read not just at Christmas but anytime of the year. Each story reminds you that it is good to give people second chances. They all have romance in the story and some intrigue as well.

Review of “The Escape” by Lisa Harris

“The Escape” is the first book in the US Marshals series by Lisa Harris. The suspense starts from almost the beginning of the book which made this book really easy to get into reading and made it hard to put down. The main characters, US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn, really play well off of each other. The romance to me does not start from the very beginning like the suspense does, but instead it slowly builds which makes it more believable and realistic especially given both of the characters’ backgrounds. There are curve balls thrown your way throughout the novel that make it even more intriguing. If you like suspenseful books with a twist and some romance thrown in, then this book is definitely for you. This was an excellent start to a series.
