Review of “Flights of Fancy” by Jen Turano

This is my first book by Jen Turano although I was surprised to realize that because I really thought I had read a book by her when I saw the covers of her books. The covers definitely draw me in. “Flights of Fancy” is the first book in the “American Heiresses” series written by Jen Turano. This book is a great read if you are the type to like romantic comedies. The female main character, Isadora Delafield, is a hoot when it comes to the situation she finds herself in as a housekeeper for the male main character, Ian MacKenzie, at the house of his Aunt and Uncle called Glory Manor. Also, you cannot help but fall for the four delightful children that end up at Glory Manor. Some of the antics of Isadora as the housekeeper remind me of the hilarious misinterpretations of one Amelia Bedelia. While Isadora does not interpret certain things wrong as Amelia does in the books by Peggy Parish, she does find herself in some hilarious situations because at first she is unable to be truthful about her past. I am definitely looking forward to reading the other two books in this series and am excited to see what interesting and funny situations the main characters find themselves in.

Review of “Beach Haven” by T.I. Lowe

Beach Haven is the second book I’ve read by T.I. Lowe. And I have to say I was not disappointed at all. This book was a really good story to read about how even when you aren’t your best self the right person can love you and help you. I loved how Opal did not let what people said about her make her change the way she dressed or went about life. I also was endeared by her shell prayers and how she prayed over every piece of furniture she made even before knowing who the owner would turn out to be.  And I felt right bad how Lincoln continually beat himself up and was too hard on himself; however, I can totally relate to that because I am the same way.  I am looking forward to the next book in this series and I highly recommend this book.

Review of “The Joy of Falling” by Lindsay Harrel

Before hearing about “The Joy of Falling” on social media, I had not heard of or read anything by Lindsay Harrel. I was immediately drawn to two things about this book other than the fact that the plot sounded really good. One of those things being the beautiful cover of the book. The colors of the cover alone drew me to want to read this book. The second thing that immediately drew me to wanting to read this book was that one of the main characters and I share a name. Once I started reading this book, I really hated the times I had to put it down in order to get other things done. This author did an amazing job of drawing you into the lives of Angela and Eva. I felt like I was right there with them and experiencing what they were going through with them. I found myself wanting to encourage both of them when things got tough and listening to them when all they needed was an ear. I really loved this book so much that I would recommend it to anyone but I would especially recommend it to anyone who has lost a spouse because it seemed like there was great advice in it for someone who would find themselves in a similar situation as these two women found themselves.

Review of “The Socialite” by J’nell Ciesielski

I found out about this book from social media because I follow a lot of authors and fellow book bloggers.  I have always been interested in World War II so I was looking forward to reading this book. I was especially intrigued by the fact that at one point in the book, the three main characters end up dining with Hitler himself.  I was very impressed with how well the author wrote that part of the book.  She did a great job of conveying how the main characters felt repulsed by being not only in Hitler’s house but even more by the man himself.  This book was so well written that I had to remind myself that it was fictional.  I would definitely read another novel by this author.

Review of “Standoff” by Patricia Bradley

This is the first in Patricia Bradley’s “Natchez Trace Park Rangers” series and it is also the first book I’ve read by this author. This book was definitely heavier on the suspense than the romance to me.  I thought that Patricia Bradley did a good job of developing her characters in this novel as well as making several people look like they could be the guilty party.  Though some say that she made it obvious who the bad guy was from too early in the book, I felt like she did throw some things in that made it so you could have questioned it a little.  Of course for me personally, I do not mind if a can easily figure out who did it early on in the book.  It does not take the joy of reading the book away from me.  So if you enjoy reading books that are suspenseful whether or not you can tell who the villain is early on, then I would say this book is for you.  I will definitely be reading more books by Patricia Bradley.
